01

Understanding the service

Start with the reason behind the problem, not only the painful area.

General physiotherapy covers muscle, joint and nerve-related concerns that affect comfort, movement or daily function. The first step is to understand what is contributing to the problem and what you need to return to.

Treatment may combine hands-on techniques, targeted exercise, movement retraining and practical advice. The plan is adjusted as your symptoms and function change.

Who this may be for

An assessment may be appropriate when pain, stiffness or weakness is limiting normal activity or is not improving as expected.

02

Receive a clear explanation of what was found and which factors may be contributing.

03

Begin the plan

Treatment may start when appropriate, with practical guidance for the time between visits.

04

Review and progress

The plan is adjusted according to response, function and the next stage of your goals.

The approach

What the treatment plan may include

Your plan is based on the assessment findings, your goals and how the condition responds. Treatment is not limited to temporary symptom relief.

The aim is to improve movement and confidence while giving you practical ways to manage the condition between appointments.

Hands-on treatment where clinically appropriate

Progressive mobility and strengthening exercises

Advice on activity, pacing, lifting or workstation demands

A home programme that is realistic and easy to follow

01

Everyday pain and injury

Treatment may help with a new injury, a recurring problem or discomfort that has gradually developed. The assessment considers movement, load, strength and the demands of your normal routine.

02

Recovery after surgery

Post-operative rehabilitation follows the surgeon’s protocol and your current stage of healing. The programme may address mobility, swelling, strength and a gradual return to daily activities.

03

Practice or home-based care

Appointments are available at the Bryanston practice. Selected home visits may be arranged when travel is difficult or treatment in the home environment is more useful.

Practical answers

Questions patients commonly ask

These answers are general. Your assessment and medical-aid rules may change what applies in your situation.

What happens at a general physiotherapy assessment?

The physiotherapist discusses the problem and your goals, examines movement and function, explains the findings and recommends a plan. Treatment may begin during the first appointment when appropriate.

Do I need a doctor referral?

No referral is needed to request an appointment. Some medical-aid plans apply their own referral or authorisation rules, so confirm your plan requirements before treatment.

How many appointments will I need?

This depends on the condition, how long it has been present and how you respond. You will receive an initial estimate after assessment and the plan will be reviewed as you progress.

Can medical aid be used?

All medical aids are accepted, subject to the benefits and rules of the patient’s plan. The patient remains responsible for amounts not covered by the scheme.

Move from uncertainty to a clear next step

Request an individual assessment and a plan based on your symptoms and goals.
